Resumo
Um grupo de intelectuais renomados publicou um manifesto na revista mensal American Prospect denunciando que a Guerra do Iraque é ilegal. O manifesto proclama uma visão contemporânea de liberalismo que, ao mesmo tempo em que é atacada, pode ressurgir. Com o título “We Answer to the Name of Liberals”, traduzido por “Respondemos pelos Liberais”, o manifesto foi escrito por Bruce Ackerman (cientista político e professor de Direito Constitucional da Universidade de Yale) e Todd Gitlin (jornalista e sociólogo do Estado de Colúmbia), e assinado por quarenta e quatro pensadores de primeira linha, incluindo ganhadores do Prêmio Nobel, do Prêmio Pulitzer, do programa MacArthur Fellowship, presidentes anteriores da American Economic Association, da American Political Science Association, da American Sociological Association, e um chanceler da American Academy of Poets. À pedido de Bruce Ackerman, publicamos a íntegra do manifesto e os nomes dos signatários.

Abstract
A group of renown intellectuals published a manifest in the monthly magazine American Prospect denouncing that the War on Iraq is illegal. The manifest proclaims a contemporary vision of liberalism that, besides the constant attacks, can be resurrected. With the title “We Answer in the Name of the Liberals”, the manifest was written by Bruce Ackerman (political scientist and professor of Constitutional Law of Yale University) and Todd Gitlin (journalist and sociologist of Columbia State), and signed by forty four top thinkers, including winners of the Nobel Prize, Pulitzer Prize, MacArthur Fellowship, hitherto presidents of the American Economic Associoation, American Political Science Association, American Sociological Association and a Chancellor of the American Academy of Poets. In request of Bruce Ackerman, we publish the manifest in integrum and the names of the respective signatories.
